Adventurous & fun, wise & committed, Alena Bartoli is a depth practitioner, transformational educator and journey guide who facilitates deep. powerful journeys of inner and outer experience.
Driven by a desire to support others as they expand consciousness of self, land and community, Alena creates and leads journeys of transformation in remote, naturally exquisite settings, gently taking her clients beyond their comfort zones and into the unknown. Drawing on a wealth of life experience and using her deep knowledge of people and place, Alena's individual and group journeys cater to the distinct needs of each client.
A true nomad, Alena has lived for extended periods in Jordan, Sweden, Egypt, Italy, Australia, Mexico, Korea, Thailand, Armenia, China and the USA. She considers southern Jordan her spiritual home and currently splits her professional time between the village of al Baidha, just outside of Petra, on the edge of the Wadi al Amti Healing Zone, the Mexican Pueblo Magico of Sayulita and the Eastern Seaboard of the continental US. Alena has facilitated transformational journeys in China, Egypt, Israel, Palestine and pre-war Syria and is conversationally proficient in Jordanian Arabic and Mexican Spanish. She has a passive knowledge of Mandarin Chinese, Italian and Russian.
Born in upstate New York, USA and raised in central California, Alena's first guiding work came as a child leading her younger siblings on solo plane journeys to visit their grandparents. By high school, she was travelling solo internationally and in university, she began engaging her peers in travel to Europe and Asia. Upon graduation from Yale University in 2001, Alena spent 7 years working, studying and traveling in Europe, Asia and Africa, completing a Master's degree in International Studies at Uppsala University in Sweden, teaching in a Chinese MBA program and helping to start a school for King Abdullah II of Jordan along the way.. Alena's first formal employment in the experiential guiding industry came as a course instructor for Where There Be Dragons. Alena later created & directed Dragons' Middle Eastern programming in Egypt, Jordan, Israel/Palestine and Syria. In 2013, Alena became certified to teach yoga and founded Yoga Nomad Travel, specializing in group and custom yoga retreats in Egypt and Jordan. She is currently working toward her 1000 hour yoga teaching certification at the Kripalu School of Yoga.
Alena is a mesa carrier in the Whitehawk lineage, a Yoga Alliance 500 hr Registered Yoga Teacher and a member of the Kripalu Yoga and Ayurveda Association. She is a member of the Yoga Mandala Project, offering regular yoga teaching to urban refugees in Jordan. She is also a member of the Vision Council of Manna Gathering - a co-creative coming together held yearly in the southern Jordanian desert and an alumni interviewer for Yale internationally.
Although a believer that life is the best teacher, Alena's guiding draws directly from the work and teaching of the following individuals: Yoli Maya Yeh, Tom Skarda, Howard & Marysol Greco, Rita Hiri, Heike Ehrlich, Chris Yager and a generation of Dragons' instructors.
